I like to listen to rap when I'm lifting. Running it doesn't matter as much but I need something with a good beat to psych myself up on lifting days, especially if I'm going for a PR.

I like to listen to Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant and The Pickle song on a loop. They're pretty long so I usually don't get through them more than twice.

Hardcore gangsta rap. My favorites are Skee-Lo, The Fat Boys, and Snow.
  • Personally it depends on the exercise. Though if it's something I need a lot of energy for, like running, I listen to an energetic song, then a slow song so I can walk, then a fast, slow, fast, slow, etc. Though personally my favorite song to run to, for empowerment, is Bulletproof Heart by My Chemical Romance. I always feel like I run just a little bit faster when that one comes on. :) I guess it depends on your taste in music.

Didgeridoo helps me get in the mood. Also stuff like Suzanne Vega; cerebral folk. Gets my heart pounding like a sump pump in a flooded basement.
