I start with one cup low-fat kefir, a yogurt-like drink. I would use nonfat if I could find it.
It is pretty tart, so usually a banana to sweeten. Then some fruit, and blend.

So far, I have tried:
fresh blackberries
frozen raspberries
apple
dried apricots

Next up:
fresh peach
mexican papaya
cantaloupe
dates

a few ice cubes are nice on a warm day, and can stretch it into a large size.

OK, stay with me this sounds nasty, but I love it.

about 1/4 of a pineapple. One banana (sliced and frozen is extra nice) and 3 large leaves of kale (you can freeze this, which makes it sweeter.)

blend thoroughly with about a cup of water. It isn't pretty, but it is good.

I also love peach with yogurt and protein powder. (much prettier)

I'm not much of a smoothie person. I like the chewing and crunching part of food. Sometimes I am not mentally satisfied by a drink. However, I used to get smoothies at my gym that had oatmeal and flax seed in them with strawberry and blueberry. Those were good and seemed more filling. My new gym doesn't make these yet, but I just talked to them about it this morning.

I haven't gotten around to trying to make any myself, but when I am in a hurry and don't have time for breakfast I drink a dannon light & fit smoothie. They are really good and only 70 calories!

banana + strawberry + mango smoothies are my favorite =)
  • My favorite is a banana blueberry smoothie:

    3/4 c plain low-fat yogurt (however I use vanilla)
    1 medium banana
    1/2 c frozen blueberries
1/4 c orange juice or skim milk
    2 tsp ground flaxseed

310 calories per serving and will last you until lunch!

    6 oz 1% milk
    1 scoop choc protein powder
    1 cup ice
    1 tbsp peanut butter

I interchange the peanut butter with fresh strawberries or bananas...

Remember after a work out is the best time to have good protein...this is quick, easy, and filling

I take my flax seed in a gel pill form, but you can't really taste in the smoothie, great for omega 3. Plus all the fish I consume has this as well. I also blend in vegetables with these recipes, carrots, celery, tomatoes, spinach, etc. just about what ever I can find. Again the fruit covers up the taste, about the healthiest meal you'll get - Fruit and Vegetables all in one.
