VEGANS - Talk to me about grains and legumes.

I just finished watching Forks Over Knives on Netflix. I want to attempt a whole food plant-based diet. However, I am weary of grains and legumes. Are these good for you to eat? If not, how do you get enough calories during the day?

Peace.

  • Hey! I really love it when i see 'vegan' written anywhere! :)

I've been vegan for six years now and loving it so so much! I'm more of the protein powder type of girl.Although I do eat chickpeas, kidney beans, quiona (alot).

Quiona is really really good for you (its a super food) and people tell me that it tastes like cous cous. I use it as a 'rice' or have it semi cooked and put it through salads :)

BUT my favourite thing is protein drinks. I make my own vegan smoothies and I always add "raw vegan sunwarrior vanilla protein powder" that stuff is amazing and its a good calorie booster too :)

I hope this has helped some! if not feel free to pm me :)

    Good luck!

    Grains and legumes are great.

Sorry that the first response to your post was not very helpful. Don't let that stop you from asking questions of things you are unsure.

Quinoa is great to add to salads. Beans and rice are a great staple. Be creative and keep things varied to be sure that you are getting enough nutrients.

    Be well,

Beans/Legumes are awesome! Protein, fiber, complex carbs, nutrients. They are super healthy. And also, if you're trying to lose weight, they are super filling! I eat them everyday :)

Grains and legumes are pretty much staples in my vegan diet, and are super healthy. Lentils, black beans, chickpeas, quinoa, brown rice… all in a steady rotation in my meal plan every week.

But I read here that grains and legumes are the cause of all foodborn illness not caused by meat, dairy and eggs...

Legumes (lentils are my favourite--sooo easy to cook) are a great source of iron and protein and fiber. WHOLE grains (brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, etc.) are a great source of fiber, and sometimes protein (quinoa, soba noodles, amaranth). Eat away! : )

I'm not a vegan, but I eat grains and legumes. Yes, they are good and contain needed micronutrients. Ignore propaganda like "Forks Over Knives." It's bunk.

    Eat and enjoy!
