Caloric intake questions...

I'm currently doing a heavy lifting regimen working with a trainer 4 days a week for an 1 hour to 1.5 hour each session. Off days I usually grab at least 1 day of serious mountain bike riding where I burn 600+ calories, and then I tool around on my bicycle cruiser here and there.
My question is - I'm kind of confused as to how much I should be eating on my heavy lifting days. MFP has my calories set to a little over 1600 calories to achieve a 1 pound per week loss... but my trainer said that he would like to see me eating at least 2000 calories a day. I have 50 pounds to lose.... and I would like to do this while achieving the best possible version of my self through lifting.
Here is a sample of my workout... its actually what I did yesterday - but you can get the idea. Besides the lifting, we do some kettlebell work. Should I be wearing a HRM while strength training, or would that be ineffective at calculating calorie burn?
Back squat 95x5, 135x3, 2, 155, 185, 205, 220 New PR!!!
Push Press Intro.
45, 55, 65x5, 85x2, 95, 100. A solid heavy push press for a newbie.
Kettlebell work:
10x36lbs KB Swings.
Snatch
5 x 5L/5R @ 12kgs.
5 x 5L/5R @ 16kgs.
100 total snatches.
Kb swings @54lbs. 20, 13, 7.
90 minutes.

MFP expects you to eat back exercise calories too. Add in those calories and you're probably pretty close to what the trainer wants you to eat.0
