This can't be right!!!

I just did a 2hr hike over fairly flat land, some minor hills but nothing huge, also had a pack on with 20lbs in it. When I added it to my exercise journal it said that I just burnt over 1300 calories! Is this right? How can that possibly be? I mean I'd be ecstatic if it is but I doubt it. Anyone with any experience inputting exercise let me know where I made my mistake?

MFP estimates on calorie burns during exercise are often over-estimated. Same goes with exercise machines and such. To be on the safe side, I would take half that number as your actual burn and go from there

Sounds about right, but I do not trust MFP exercise calories because it does not take into consideration your weight. The heavier you are the more calories you will burn. I use this calculator and then copy and paste into MFP.

MFP does take your weight into account. Not sure what gave you the impression it didn't.

That's close to what I get when I run a half marathon(13.1 miles) in two hours at 220 lbs.

You might want to use about half of it or get a HRM for a little more accuracy.

Depending on your weight and how fast you rode 1300 may be pretty close. I tend to burn about that in a 2 hour ride over fairly level territory, but I go at a fairly rapid pace. It is not a leisurely ride, I am really pushing. If you were pushing on the ride I would say this sort of burn is not out of line.

Even if you half that, it's a great burn!

Yeah I'm still happy about it.
