What do you do with your clothing?

I'm down almost 70 pounds right now and have gone from a XL to a M, and pretty close to my goal. I didn't have many winter clothes that I liked, so I splurged this year on clothing and got rid of almost all of it. Now my problem is summer clothes. I had a beautiful wardrobe and don't want to get rid of a lot of pieces. Do I get new clothing as I think I'll stay a medium, or get things taken in?

ETA: when is it appropriate to wear a bikini? I'm going on spring break in 2 months, and I don't think I'll be bikini ready, but really want to try.

It's up to you really. I got rid of all my Summer clothing (and the shorts I bought last year too, considering I've lost a few sizes since), but it was cheap stuff. If it was really nice things that you love, I'd definitely have them resized.

Cheap stuff I'm okay with giving away/donating. But I have a few very expensive shirts I've had for years. It's weird how things get longer when you lose weight, some of the shirts could make cute outfits with leggings.

I kept most of my clothes, in fact the only things I threw away were jeans that just looked a bit ridiculous. Everything I wore before was baggy t-shirts which still just look like baggy t-shirts anyway.

For some of them I took them in myself, just sewed a big line from the bottom up to the armpit. If it's a more complicated piece of clothing or you don't want to try that you could get them taken in. Personally, I wouldn't go out and buy a load of new clothes and ditch my old ones as I'd pretty much just be buying the same clothes in smaller sizes.

I shop at thrift stores so I am constantly donating clothes I do not wear or don't fit....that way someone else can wear it. :)

The majority of my clothes come from my local Goodwill; I'm fortunate that it keeps up to date clothes/brands and I can get my Abercrombie fix for under $5 a piece

I just donated clothes back as they no longer fit, while I was losing weight. I don't have anything left from my 'before' days, not even shoes since my feet have shrunk a whole size :noway: I have a few pieces that I bought last summer, as I was transitioning into maintenance, that will fit this year like my swimsuit. But this will be my first summer fully in maintenance and with my weight stabilized in my maintenance range, so I'll be doing some shopping in a couple months

There is no "appropriate". If you feel comfortable in a bikini wear one :)!
You don't have to be a specific size, its all about confidence. If you feel awkward and self concious don't bother, but if you feel good go for it.

My 'before' clothes were so big that it wouldn't have been worth altering them (20 to an 8/10). They were donated. Since I wasn't willing to shell out too much for transition wardrobe pieces they were donated tithe Salvation Army as I went in too look for new things. My SA can have some nice things if you have the patience to dig. Now that I'm close to goal, I might alter some things that I love and can't easily replace. Some nice shirts and maybe some skirts. T-shirts and things will be replaced. Unfortunately I found some *really* nice leather pants that I don't thinks would take well to alteration. I'll probably give things like that to someone I know who would like to have them.

Wear the bikini and rock it! Take a nice cover to put on when you're up walking around until (if) you feel confident.
