Upper body

My goal this year is to do a Spartan race this year. That being said, I need some serious upper body strength to do that and I am super weak. Anyone have recommendations on upper body exercises that I can do at home and how often I should do them? I am a 25 yr old female if that helps any. Thanks!

I am thinking that body weight work.....pullups, pushups....that sort of thing would be to your advantage. There are a few great books out there that are great for body weight training. I really like Body Weight Strength Training Anatomy by Bret Contreras but You Are Your Own Gym and Convict Conditioning are also very reputable books.
Barbell and DB training would be beneficial also, but I feel like the body weight stuff would be more applicable to this type of race although I have never done on myself  I'm sure that others who have will add some words of wisdom!
Good luck and have fun!0
