Does water gain after exercise eventually level out?

I've been counting calories since June, but I haven't been exercising. I decided I wanted to add exercising for 2014. I want to eventually run a few days a week, but am starting out just walking when I have extra time and energy. I've noticed that everytime I walk I gain about 4 - 6 pounds the next day and it stays on until I've gone a few days without walking. I know it is just water, but I am wondering if it evens out eventually?
