Ribs show more but have gained weight! How?

I had a break from my diet for Christmas (partly because it was Christmas partly to shock my body so I loose better after Christmas, I have had brakes before like this and they have worked very well) I know I would probably gain a pound or 2 but I didn’t mind. 2 weeks post charismas and my ribs were showing more, my waist had gone back down to 26.5, I felt fitter and I was eating healthily again. I was exited to weight myself but when I did I was 6kb more than before. I don’t understand I’m sure I’ve lost weight, I did think I could be muscle, but surely I would notice a change if I gained 6lb of muscle. How has this happened, is there something wrong with the scales?

What you put on is probably a mix of water, fat and possibly muscle. What people call their ribs are actually muscles just over the ribs so it makes sense you could put muscle on your chest and they look more prominent, but it's unlikely you put on only muscle or that much in a short space of time without heavy weightlifting.0
