going over calorie limit

hi i was just wondering if any one sets up consequences for going over their daily calorie limit? not really punishment per say but motivation to stay within your calories. if you do, what kind of "consequences" do you give yourself?

Well the "consequence" of going too far over your calorie limit too often means your weight loss will stop or reverse.

Seems like enough of a consequence to me.

Punishing yourself got going over calories just seems like a slippery slope into a bad or worse relationship with food.

Never. I look at the week as a whole so if I am over one day by a bit it is no big deal.

    This.

If I go over one day then I subtract it from the next day. E.g. I've had a couple of days (Saturday and yesterday) where I went over by a couple hundred calories so today and Thursday I will be cutting my calories back to make up for it. At the end of the week when I weigh in it should be all good. And of course if I chose not to do that then my punishment will be that I won't see a loss on the scale.

This is a positive way, now if Ur going over everyday then as someone Said before Ur weight is enough to tell u Ur not doing this right and if the weight gain or maintain doesn't do this then Ur not in the right frame of mind to lose weight xx

Personally, I choose to reward myself for the good days instead of punishing myself for the bad ones. Every day that I hit my goals I get a sticker on my calendar. Is it silly? Sure. But it works for me.

There are going to be days where I'm over my calorie goal, not just while dieting but for the rest of my life. Sometimes they're planned, sometimes I'm just not paying attention, and sometimes they're emotional/stress induced. I don't intend to punish myself for going over for the rest of my life so I don't do it now.

Whatever you decide going forward, I know you'll find something that works for you. Best of luck!

normally I go for a walk to clear my head as I only really go over when I'm sad and have comfort eaten, or when I'm drunk :drinker: but most of the time I go by the average of the week as opposed to one single day.

I'll make myself work out extra the next day.
This eats into my free time so I'd be less likely to be able to play games or see friends or take a nap. :(
