ACL Reconstruction / When can I lift?

Had surgery to repair my acl on December 23rd. i know I need to wait a bit, but my physical therapist says 6 months before I can do squats or deadliest. To me that just seems crazy. Recovery is going quite well and I think 2 or 3 months might work. Anyone have any experience with ACL surgery and how long till lifting can resume?

That's a question for your surgeon and physical therapist.

This. If they said 6 months, than 6 months it is.

There is obviously a reason why your PT has said that you can not do these exercises for 6 months. They obviously have some knowledge with the sort of surgery you had and therefore know how long it will take to recover.
Listen to what your PT says.
Or don't.
And then re-injure yourself and set yourself back even further.0 -
I see the surgeon today. Yes, of course, I will talk with him about it. The physical therapist…well, he just doesn't inspire confidence. I was simply hoping to hear from someone who experienced the same thing and what they were told. Thanks for the input.0

I had acl in August last year. So I am at about 23 weeks now. I have finished my pt and they actually get you squatting at around 8 weeks. This is with no weights. Toward the end of the 20 week pt they make you add weights. I have been squatting with just 20kg since about week 16. Take it easy and don't rush. I go to the gym everyday and run every other you need to build up muscle and strength. The jump/ hop tests were the hardest part of pt. I know you're very limited 12 weeks post op so until then listen to the pt. don't rush and if you feel any pain stop. My knee still doesn't feel the best. Can be sore but I am running 5k which I didn't think id be able to do so just keep at it. Take it slow.0

i had my right knee ACL reconstructed Oct 31 2013, and just got clearance from my surgeon to weightlift and spin at the gym this week. still, my PT is a bit more cautious, although he wants me to start jogging on the treadmill tomorrow during our session.
i am doing some squats in PT, but unweighted. I read during my research that squatting is a closed chain exercise and therefore safer than returning to soccer, for example.
i have never felt so flabby in my life and i cannot wait to hit the iron. i'm a 33 year old woman, if that information matters.0 -
