I would say so I could crush melons with my bare hands.
I don't have anything to add, because they've said everything there is to say.0 -
because I want to be fit, strong and empowered...not just pretty.0

I have only recently lifted weights in the past year, with the inspiration of my trainer, doing free weights has helped me to gain a sense of balance and to break a mental barrier in my mind of what I could and could not do. I also always thought of myself as a leg and running person and had neglected my upper body. Do what you feel comfortable with- David0

“Strong people are harder to kill than weak people and more useful in general.”
― Mark Rippetoe
and a combination of all of what has been said above. Makes you healthier, stronger, sexier, leaner, more confident...
Also, you might consider taking some time to reflect on what you want to get out of it and set some goals. I generally don't do something fitness wise unless I know why I'm doing it and how it will help me achieve my goals.0 -

My ready response, as has already been said, is "Why not?" or "Because I can." But for you, I would say so that you can be as awesome as Leeloo Dallas Multipass. :bigsmile:0 -
Because it's fun.
I get stronger and more capable physically.
It helps my bones to stay strong.
I retain more muscle when I lose fat.
To eat significantly more.0 -
Because I never have been the wilting delicate flower type, and I want to be the strong one in my house, not depend on the menfolk to move furniture or open a jar or whatever
Actually, for me, because it's fun, there's a rush when you reach a PR (I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who wants to roar after completing a difficult set!), and I want my teenage daughter to see that she DOESN'T have to choose between smart, strong, and beautiful!!0 -
Because i look really pretty deadlifting with my new pink gloves on.0
