I'm partial to Yuengling, it's an excellent lager, and it's 135/12oz, and their light lager, which is also good, is only 99/12 oz.

A lot of places around me are offering half pints and beer samplers so you can enjoy a few different craft beers in 8 oz. or 4 oz. servings.
Variety is the spice of life.

I usually drink IPAs. They tend to be the most dense unfortunately (probably because of the higher alcohol percentage). If I go out drinking I usually don't eat much during the day. Maybe some eggs or a half pound of fish.

I really like Goose Island, Harpoon, Lagunitas, Stone IPA :)

I wonder what kind of nutrition some of these beer varieties have? I hear some have a lot of iron, some have a lot of B vitamins and other antioxidants. Anyone look into that?

The good news is that even on a strict diet of 1800 calories, that's at least 10-12 beers. Take a multivitamin and call it a day.

Pro Tip: Leave room for whisky. That's an important fact often overlooked by noobs.

    Sounds like my weekends :)

I love beer! I also find that it's a great day-before-a-long-run carb fuel.

Brilliant news! I'll let you know if it works for me :)

Great post, thanks! I'll be having some Full Sail tonight, although it's the one made in Galway (ireland), not Oregon - had to google! Craft beer is great, happy weekend everyone!

Great post, nice to find like minds. Bumping this again. When I can find a good craft beer around 150 calories, I can indulge in a few and still fit the calories in my goal, or go over a bit. Have a good workout the same day, and it opens it up a bit. ;)

In for beer, nice list for those trying to fit things in. When I'm having a beer, calories are the last thing on my mind. I don't drink often enough to worry about it.

Last night I had the Rogue Chocolate Stout (on cask) and a Duck Rabbit Milk Stout.

Goose Island and Stone are both really nice. I haven't tried the others. Here, we have one called Ram's Head, a local brew by Fordham/Old Dominion, that is really good, also Dogfish 60 Minute is good, another local brew. The problem for me with IPA is not necessarily the calories, I can work that in, but the carbs. A lot of them are 20+ grams of carbs, and when you are targeting 50 and no more than 100 carbs a day, it limits how many you can have. I still make room for them though!
  • Bumping the slore's post for my drinking pleasure.

If you ever get to Colorado( I dont know how far away it gets shipped.) Try a Ska Mexican Logger. Yummy but only seasonal. Green can like this.

Oooh, can I play? I looove craft beer ( a little too much!) I scour the internet for the calories of my fav's the same as I do food. And, I've been known to skip a meal here or there to make room. I'd like to add a small sampling from my stock that fall under the 200 cal mark.

Thirsty Dog Brewing- Irish Setter Red, 177 cal, ABV 5.9
Thirsty Dog - Twisted Kilt, 159 cal, 5.3 ABV
Duclaw- Sweet Baby Jesus (choc/peanutbutter stout) 195 cal, ABV 6.5
Susquehanna Brewing Co.- Pils Noir, 147 cal, 4.9 ABV
Rogue- Chipotle Ale, 165 cal, 5.5 ABV
Boulder- Shake Chocolate Porter, 177 cal, 5.9 ABV
Terrapin- Moo Hoo, 180 cal, 6 ABV
Stegmaier Amber Lager- 159 cal, 5.3 ABV

This list doesn't include my favorite fall & pumpkin beers, though a great many of that season tend to be under 200 cals. The gods are smiling. :drinker:

Thank you! I have been avoiding beer since I began tracking my food on Jan 19. So excited to work an occasional beer in as a treat! Thanks for the comprehensive list. I am a big fan of stouts in particular. Yay!!

  • Hello, I'm Rob. First time poster, roughly a 5-week myfitnesspal tracker. I love craft beer and have been using this handy chart to help guestimate my calories. Feel free to use it too. :drinker:

Very good, Rob. I just use ABV*3 as a handy rule of thumb for a 12 ounce pour. This matches your chart.

For those who don't know, ABV(%alcohol by volume) is readily available from beeradvocate and ratebeer.

I remained incredibly disciplined last weekend. Bought 2 6's, Troegs Nugget Nectar and Dogfish 60 minute IPA. I only had 3 on Sunday. Friday and Saturday I had band gigs so I had a couple IPA's at the places we were playing.
