OP, it sounds like you would be better off finding someone who shares similar goals and beliefs about fitness, if this is such a big deal for you. You're not going to motivate someone else to do something they truly don't want to do, and the harder you push, the more resistance you're likely to encounter; the other reasonably expected response to that amount of pushing is that he's pushed out the door.
If you can't love and accept him as he is, let him go so that he can find someone who can.0
