Help me get my life back!

Here's my story: I worked pretty darn hard to lose 20 lbs, reaching my goal in January. And I've maintained like a champ! But...

I was in a hit and run car accident mid-June (I was the hit), and my life totally fell apart. The car was declared a total loss (I loved my car--it was a PT Cruiser woody, and I'd only had it for 8 months). My back was sprained in two places, which resulted in me losing my job (I was a nanny to a toddler and an infant, and it was too painful to lift them or ever have a good attitude). But more on point, the back sprains meant I couldn't run or do yoga. So depression pretty much kicked in high gear. My body was hurt, my mood sucked, and I didn't have my natural stress relief of excercise to deal with it. Which made my mood suck more. I probably would've gained weight anyway from cutting out exercise, but on top of it I was doing a lot of comfort eating (in my case, ice cream).

Now, after a ton of chiropractic treatment, I'd say my back is about 70% better. I got the ok to try running again, which felt amazing when I tried it on Monday. But I've gained 10 pounds, and I don't know where my discipline went. For everything. I've got a trip to Maui coming up September 16 for my five year anniversary with the boif, I would hate to ruin it by feeling body conscious the whole time!

Looking for a little community love and accountability, particularly the next few weeks! Even a few pounds will make a big psychological difference! I think 5 lbs is an appropriate goal by then... what do you think?

Hey! We have similiar stories! .. not that that's a good thing... but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who went in a bad direction after a car accident. (Still am VERY limited on excersise b/c of neck & back issues...used to run as well)

This site is helping a ton... there are ups and downs, like in life... but for me it's been a real eye opener.

I still get really crabby about that spit second of my life changing so much.

If I can do it, so can you.

And Maui is AMAZING! That's a great trip to focus on.

5 pounds by September 16th may be a little aggressive- Do what you can and be ready to applaud yourself for all the little victories (who knows, you may surprise yourself and get it off!). Enjoy long walks on the beach in Maui for all of us ;0)

    Thanks for the support, guys!

Rae--I think 5 lbs by the 16th is a little aggressive, now that I'm really considering it, especially due to my limited exercise ability right now. But I'll do what I can, I suppose!

29bubbles--when was your accident? I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but it is nice to commiserate a little. What kind of exercises are you able to do?

Ask your chiropractor about some yoga and resistance band strength training for your core. After an accident like yours I would be hesitant to run because of the jarring impact. I have 2 bad discs in my back and can do walking at a good clip ok, but not jog or run. My chiro is fantastic about finding exercises for me to do at home to improve my posture and core. The bands don't make you tense and jolt the way free weights and machines do.

I am sure you could lose 4-5 pounds in 2 weeks since this would be your first and second weeks  Good luck and have fun!
