You should never drink aloud- most people consider slurping your drink rude...

To answer your question though, you're allowed anything. I don't drink beer or sugary drinks though. I stick to straight spirits when I drink (usually rum) and log them as 100 calories even though they may only be 70. Keep it in moderation, drink at least one glass of water (with lemon or berries added to make it fancy) per alcoholic drink and you'll be just fine! Enjoy!

    Hi!
I need to change up my daily routine ...I am currently exercising about 4 days a week, I try to add one exciting thing to do with my 7 year old daughter on Saturdays!!! Last Saturday we went rollerskating!
    I diet, low carbs, about 2 cheat days a week....hit a plateau!
    Any suggestions??
    thanks!
first suggestion is to create your own post for questions.

I do two beers on weekdays, and 3-5 on weekend days.

Because I consume 300-750 calories a day on beer, I really do try to make the rest of my calories count by eating clean to balance it out, and making sure I get enough protein. Be careful not to under-nourish yourself just to fit the alcohol in.

I drink vodka and water or sprite zero every night. It may slow me down but I'm still losing.

Can I suggest a milkshake of bourbon and caramel ice cream to really get the most out of your macronutrient allotment?

That sounds amazing! It's on my list to try after my next century ride.

ETA: for the original poster, are you in the UK? If so, you might want to choose bitters rather than lagers, since they tend to have fewer calories in a pint (or half). The ABV on the tap labels gives you some idea of which ones have more calories (more alcohol generally means more calories). I prefer bitters anyway….

Just make sure to accurately log the calories you drink. It can be an eye-opener.

The thing I love about MFP is you can do whatever you want, all MFP does is provide information to help you make informed choices.

For example, when I want to drink, I make sure I fit it in somehow, if not that day, then at least that week.

And occasionally I just say "This is a special occasion, I shall drink ALL the alchohol".

It usually only slows me down by about a week. :P
  • Drink beer!! It is full of nutrients and minerals.

You just have to drink in moderation.

I now order a half pint and alternate with water. Then I get the same delicious taste of beer, but am only drinking half of what I used to.

Stay away from pop and energy drinks as mixers. Not good for you.

As a caveat I had a jagerbomb on new years eve for the first time and it was delicious.

Don't feel guilty if the rest of the time you are eating well.

count it. make it fit. move on.

    this.

you are allowed to do whatever you want...just make it fit in your day.
    This.
    (and this)

watch the mixers, and watch what you eat after you drink.

its about calories and carbs at the end of the day. Drink a 64 or mich ultra if you must have beer. Stay away from juice in your vodka. A trick I use when going out is to order a shot of vodka with water then add a little bit of packet of crystal light. That helps me a lot. Whatever you have, just also order water with it. So a sip of beer then a sip of water, it helps to quench your thirst while having a good time and limit the alchohol (calories) you consume.

My advice is to drink a few bloody marys, its full of nutrition from the tomato sauce and the hot sauce is good for your immune system. At least this is what I have convinced myself of

I definitely calculate in the occasional drink. However, I learned the hard way the other night that it's better to exercise a bit more for the extra calories (and also allow for something to absorb a bit of the booze while you're drinking!) rather than skimp at meals. I knew there'd be lovely Scotch at the party I was attending so I ate a really light dinner and avoided all the nibblies at the party. End result: quite tipsy quite fast and then woke up STARVING at 4 AM because while there are plenty of calories in Scotch, it doesn't fill your belly.
