You'll be sad to learn that Dr. Oz has no credibility on this site at all.

Calorie deficit is what helps one lose weight. Not any pills, shakes or schemes.

If Dr. Oz was the miracle worker he claims to be he wouldn't have to be selling a new diet every #*($#^$( week.

Sorry, but Dr. Oz, while he *is* a medical doctor (cardiothoracic surgeon) he doesn't know his *kitten* from his elbow when it comes to weight loss. You won't find many Oz-luvvahs here.

The reason that some people lose weight trying any diet (Atkins, Grapefruit, Paleo, Dr. Oz's Patent Colon Cleanser, whatever) is that, by cutting out some foods or substituting a shake/bar/etc. for a meal, they lead to a calorie deficit. Of course, the drawback is that if you stop following the diet and return to your old habits, you gain the weight back.

Much better to make sustainable lifestyle changes and then adjust calories consumed to your weight loss goals. When you reach your target, keep the same diet (in the sense of the mixture of foods you regularly eat), and just adjust the calories to your weight maintenance needs. For instance, right now I'm running about a 400 calorie/day deficit. A typical breakfast for me is a slice of toast with butter, about 140 calories. When I reach my goal, I'll need to add 400 calories per day to what I eat, so I might have two slices of toast for breakfast, and add a little more to lunch and dinner, so that I'm eating my maintenance level. But I don't envision making radical changes to what I eat.
