Trouble Sleeping UGH!

Any other wives out here with husbands deployed and having a tough time at night? Its driving me crazy. Thank goodness I am off tomorrow but back to work Friday and Saturday. Only getting maybe 3 hours a night of sleep. Taking over the counter sleep meds, and natural meds. I know I am being silly....UGH

    I just have trouble sleeping period.
    I appreciate his service and your struggle, however
    I suggest melatonin, bendryl, or valarien (sp?) root
    teas like chamomile can help too
    Also a warm bath.

    Since I retired I have a hard time going to sleep a night. I was assigned the night shift my last 10 years.
  • Thank you :). I am taking melatonin, bendryl, or valarien root LOL....oh and Kava Kava. I have always had trouble sleeping off and on but with him gone...every noise and I am jumping. I know there is no reason to be so jumpy but cant seem to beat it.

    Avoid caffeine after 3pm, don't work out at night. Both of those things keep me up tossing and turning for hours - it is so annoying! My husband is not deployed though, so I'm not sure I would sleep too well without him there either...:( Good luck and hope you catch your Z's!

    Maybe a Dr. can help? or more exercise?
    Or a good book?
    Sometimes when I have trouble with sleep I will read until I can't focus
    Then straight to sleep

    Sleeping mask, a quiet room and no caffeine before bed. Hopefully that helps.

  • Don't get on the computer or your phone (unless it's minimal contact) 30 minutes before bedtime. Start sitting in darker areas so your body starts to get tired on its own. Then when you start feeling drowsy, go to bed then! Don't wait!

    If you're already in bed and just can't sleep, get up and turn on a lamp and write about whatever's in your mind on paper, not on a computer! The light of the screen tricks your body into thinking it's daytime light and your body shouldn't be tired!

    Also, if you download an app called "Sleepbot", it has tips for you to fall asleep.. Also it tracks your sleep throughout the night to see when you make sounds or just move! It's a pretty handy deal.

    All of those thinks were recommended by my sleep specialist doctor. They work for me and I barely even take my meds anymore!

    I have real insomnic tendencies.....No amount of pills from the doc has ever been any good, what I've learnt is not to stress about it.
    I may only get for hours sleep a night, but I enjoy the time laying in bed awake, planning stuff in my head, from the coming weekend, too holidays and whatever else is on my mind.

    I actually get annoyed these days if the alarm wakes me up and I don't get that time (rarely happens)
