anybody drink diet pop to save the calories?

and before everybody loses their mind, i know artificial sugar is terrible for you, there are studies that say yada yada, aspartame causes cancer, etc..

i just want to know if anybody drinks it, or switched to diet from regular soda when they began their journey, if it helped, if you use the calories for another treat.. etc. if you dont,.. then this isnt really meant for you [and good for you! honestly. such a vice]

I used to drink way too much diet soft drink, now i drink sparkling mineral water instead...flavoured with a hint of lemon, or lime or berries...
I couldn't waste the calories on normal soft drink!

I made the switch from regular coke to coke zero, I just couldn't justify wasting calories on something with zero nutritional value whatsoever. I still work some regular soda into my day occasionally, but most of the time I just would prefer to fill my allotted calories with real food

I have a diet pop here and there. I have seen no definitive evidence that aspartame is harmful, quite the opposite. I was never a big pop drinker, but I would be reluctant to blow 150 calories on a glass of pop, that's one less scoop of ice cream I can have.

I drink at least one can (usually 2, very rarely 3) of diet soda daily. Generally 1 Diet Pepsi and 1 -2 Frescas. I never switched for diet reasons though, i drink them because I like them. End of story. Very rarely I'll get a craving for a Dr. Pepper and I will have it, calories be damned :drinker:

I did the same. My target calorie level is 1,200 calories; I'm not wasting any of that on regular sugar soda.

I've got to be fairly desperately thirsty and caffeine-deprived to drink regular soda, such as being stuck in an 8-hour meeting where the host is only providing a choice between regular soda or coffee (which I don't drink coffee at all), for me to sink to regular soda.

I also switched from sugar to aspartame as a sweetener for hot tea, although in winter or when I have a sore throat, I switch to honey as a sweetener.

Once every so often I will have a coke zero.

I have at times had it more regularly, but I noticed it had a negative impact on my asthma.

    I drink diet coke everyday.

Not because it's diet but because I prefer the taste.

I have always loved diet coke and if those "studies" are true I will be dead soon...

Actually, aspartame has been found over and over again to be safe. Some people have sensitivities towards it, but that does not mean it's bad or unsafe for everyone, same with anything else :)

I drink 4-5 cans a day-did this while I was losing weight and continue to do so while now in maintenance. I've also started drinking the new 10 calorie sodas-Dr. Pepper, Sunkist, 7 Up etc all have 10 calorie versions out now and they're really good!

Artificial sugar is not terrible for you. There's no evidence to suggest that it is! Aspartame is probably one of the most tested food additives ever but people love to blame it for all sorts of things. If any of them were true it wouldn't still be used.

    Definitely
I eat out with work etc a lot and compete in sport every weekend which means eating out. In that situation people always want to buy rounds of drinks - so much better if it's diet and doesn't wipe out my calories (it's hard enough staying under when away)

I have diet lemonade usually as a weekend treat as I hate wasting calories on drinks. Through the week I might have the odd can of diet cherry coke but it's mainly to kill a bad sweet craving. Rest of the time I drink what we call 'council pop' - good old fashioned water!! :drinker:

i switched from 4ltrs of full fat cola to 4 ltrs of no added sugar squash, but i do a 500ml bottle of coke zero couple of times a week - i know its bad, but I believe its better for me than full fat coke; some may not agree, but i believe what i believe, and my weight loss is happening so it seems to be working for me

I usually drink 1-2 Diet Cokes daily, have preferred the taste for at least six years so it's more that than anything else!

Nope. If you really want a soda, have one and then go back to healthy beverages.

Even sans calories, it is replacing room in your diet for items that nourish and hydrate and the ones used in sodas will alter your perception of taste in general.

Personally I don't like the taste of artificial sugar. If I want a soda, which isn't often, I'll have a soda.

I did-- I hated diet soda before doing all of this. When I started I didn't realize how many calories I drank a day--- in OJ, other juices, soda, gatorade, milk, etc.

So I did start drinking it when I started because I wanted something other than water and I missed the carbonation of soda.

I don't really feel like it's impacted my weight loss or helped it, it just made me not drink or like regular soda any longer =)

Studies on rats. Not humans. The results on humans are inconclusive so until anyone (scientists, not aspartame nay-sayers) tells me otherwise I will happily sip my coke zero

Hydration? The first ingredient in diet soda is water....

Also where is this study on taste perception, I would very much enjoy reading it!

Plus the amount given to rats would be the equivalent of someone drinking 20+ cans of diet soda a day over months or years. So I will be happy drinking my 2 to 3 cans a day.

About 2-3 years ago I made the switch from regular soda to diet for the sole purpose of saving calories. It ended up working for awhile..than it all just came to a hault and I fell off track but aquired the taste so I kept drinking it. Now I have completely stopped been soda free for several months now and couldn't be happier. I will drink some sparkling flavored water but that's about it and that's not often. I drink TONS of water.

I drink caffeine free diet cola. Couple of cans a day. Makes a big difference calorie wise.
Also drink a lot of water.

When I first started I did switch from regular to diet, which was easy as diet soda is always in my house. But lately I've cut it out completely. Just cutting it out helps with weight loss, I've lost a couple pounds already! Plus I feel so much healthier without putting that junk in me (:

Is there any other rational reason to switch from regular to diet soda unless you are saving calories? lol. Well, I guess a claim could be made that diet soda is better for the teeth. Though, in general, soda is not good for your teeth.

Note: if you drink a moderate amount of diet soda, the aspartame will not hurt you (according to my crazy googling when I was pregnant).

No, I can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners. Diet sodas don't work for me.

I switched over to soda water (with lime if I can get it).
