HELP!! interval training?!!? HRM?!

Hi MFP!!,

I use my POLAR FT4 HRM to track my exercise cals so I can eat them back.

I play floor hockey which is basically interval training. You play really hard, and then you sit off for a 2-5 min shift.

In the past, I was pausing my HRM when I was on the sidelines. I'd usually burn around 400 calories in 50 mins.

However my heart would still be up for at least 1-2 mins of the off shift

The last two times, I left it on the entire 50 mins, and I burned between 750-840 cals!!

What do people who do interval training and wear HRMs count?!? Even if I was resting for 50 mins, i'd only burn 55 calories....

Thanks so much!!!!

HRMs are inappropriate for calculating caloric expenditure for anything other than steady state cardio. A high heart rate does not necessarily equate a significantly increased caloric expenditure.
