First 5K and rest

Hi all,

I'm new to running my first 5K is Feb 8th. For those with experience how many days do you rest before the race?

For the couple days leading up to the race, do run, but make it just enough to warm you up and get you moving. Make sure you eat well and sleep before the race.

    Have fun!

Opinions will vary, depending on your experience and goals.

For a 5k, one day rest is fine, or go for a light jog the day before. You don't want to take the entire week off or anything.

I'd rest the day before, but like someone else said, you should be doing short easy runs up until then. And make sure you warm up prior to the race. A brisk walk or dynamic warm up. Especially as it's colder now.

Watch what you eat prior also because that will affect your performance. Quite honestly, you don't have to eat anything as you're talking a run that's probably only going to be 25-40 minutes (depending on your pace). Your body should have the gas stored up from the day prior. If you do decide to eat something, do it at least a half hour prior and stay away from fats or high fiber foods. And of course hydrate!
