You CAN spot reduce

So I read this article this morning which claims that you can spot reduce, basically by training is a specific way to increase blood flow to certain areas which seems particularly useful for areas that are know to have poor blood flow (lower abs and obliques for example). Haven't looked into the scientific basis but it seems to make sense. Interested in any opinions or evidence either way.

You wouldn't by chance be in the market for a bridge in New York, would you?

It's T-nation. Most of the regulars on those forums have some chemical help that (I'd wager) most MFP-ers don't want to put in their bodies. I can't agree or disagree with the article, because I can't even imagine trying to lose weight while those substances are in me.

editbutnotreally: A body can't spot reduce bodyfat. I guess maybe-and that's a big maybe- training techniques such as occlusion may-may-have some impact on the appearance of fatty areas, but that's a very, very skeptical guess.

The study that they reference isn't so sure:

Based on the present results, it cannot be foreseen if specific exercises can induce spot reduction, since triacylglycerol (TG) stores could be fully replenished or even supercompensated between exercise sessions.

Short-term studies like this lasting only a few hours aren't very meaningful compared to long-term studies lasting weeks & months.

Do you think I could train my blood to flow in my hands and feet more? Not because I need to lose weight in those areas lol but because their always cold! I want to improve my circulation
