Easy curry recipes - preferably Dhansak?

Hello!
I am a takeaway fiend and have missed my curries as I LOVE Indian food. My favorite is Chicken Dhansak, and I've been looking for a good recipe to try and cook it at home. Only problem is, all the recipes I find are different, some with loads of spices and some with a handful. Some with Tomatoes and some without. I know I won't be able to create a dish which tastes exactly the same as my local Indian Takeaway! However I would like a recipe which is tried and tested, and preferably easy and cheap to make.
Can anyone help please?

I use curry roux. It comes in blocks. The spices and thickener are already in the cubes that you break off and through in the pot. I buy it at the grocery but you may have to order it on amazon.0

I buy spice blends at a small store called "The Spice House" locations in Chicago and Milwaukee, but they do mail order too. So much better than anything you can get at the grocery store. They probably have a handful of different curry along with my favorite, red curry powder (I add either lime juice or fish sauce to make the paste). They also have an Ethiopian blend called Berebere. Add it to red lentils and it is heaven. And if you cook with cumin - it is the best I've ever had. Ten times better than Penzky's and 100 times better than store bought. Find someone to share and it'll be worth it.1
