<--- lifts weights and not nearly as muscular as I'd like to be. I don't think I look muscular at all, actually.
Those girls on the Jillian Michaels DVDs likely didn't get bodies like that by just doing Jillian workouts.0 -
Someone's probably already said this but if you are a woman, you cannot possibly get big and bulky like men. (Unless you take some steroids) You do not have the testosterone to build big bulky muscles.
Weight lifting for women is essential for things like building bone mass (and avoiding osteoporosis later in life).
As a woman with PCOS, my tests showed that I have two and a half times the typical testosterone level for women. Does this increase the likelihood of me bulking up if I lift weights?
Even IF you do bulk faster than normal... it still doesn't happen overnight. Watch your progress in the mirror and stop when you get happy with where you are.0 -

Your body looks awesome Not super muscular, just in really great shape!0 -
You won't explode into some muscle machine just from lifting heavy.
Lift heavy, eat right. Repeat & continue.
I agree with this guy. It is 90% diet this whole losing weight thing.0 -

I doubt it since men have like 20 times the amount a woman has.0 -
I don't want to look like this:
That's what I thought--you don't want a very defined look, so you're looking at Jamie in a cut.
This is her other times:
It really is about body fat percentage, not getting too muscular.
Ok yea I see what you're saying...Well how do I start this? Can I lift heavy at home? I hate lifting at the gym with those creep men that stare.0 -

I bought a weight set on Amazon for less than $70, though I did have to get a longer barbell as the one it came with was super short.
Great for starting out!0 -

I lift and I am not "muscular"...I am getting less squishy.0 -

what exercises do you do and how much weight do you lift? I guess I just want to know where I can get a routine?0 -
People will recommend that you start with the book Starting Strength.
Do that if you like text books.
If not, Watch a video and do as they do, I guess.0 -
Well I do Richard Simmons, I love him! No other suggestions bc his tapes are the only ones that have worked for me!0

You know what, don't do that. You could hurt yourself. GO READ, then watch, then slowly do!

I guess I am confused as to what more advice you would like?0 -
Starting Strength, Strong Lifts, New Rules of Lifting for Women, Nia Shanks. Any of those would be a good place to start. I bought used weights on Craigslist, a couple of barbells, dumbbells and weights, plus my BF found some of his old equipment which included a bench. And I bought a chin up bar that goes up in the door way.0

Buy the book New Rules of Lifting for Women. It's full of info and he provides a great starting routine.
I started lifting 18 months ago. Lost 38lbs and have completely transformed my shape to a more feminine silhouette. I am far from bulky. I do get called "skinny" a lot and "fit", but never "bulky".0 -
I am a natural bodybuilder. My friends have shared my story (the story of revenge). I've been training to gain muscle for the past 2 years. I am tiny for the bodybuilding industry.
This is how I managed my transformation: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1161603-so-you-want-a-nice-stomach
Here is what I look like on stage.
Here is what I looked like two weeks before that picture:

Have you considered body weight strength training instead of "weight lifting?"
I'm the opposite of you however. I want to look like Jamie Eason on a normal day. And if I could look like her on a competiton day that would be teh awesomeness! I saw some pics of her recently, she just had a baby and STILL looks amazing -- but softer.
There are also programs that help create more "lean" than "big."
