Going on vacation, need some help

Hi all,

I am leaving in 5 weeks to head to Sunny Florida.
We will be driving down (27 hours in the car) which will most likely result in alot of fast food stops and snack foods.

Need everyone's help here.
What type of snacks would be best to take that will make me feel satisfied but will also not make me go on a sugar high and then crash (not great when driving...haha).

Also, when we finally get to our destination, there is NO GYM within 100 miles or so and we have no gym in the condo, so I am wondering what others do while on vacation.

I am planning on getting out on the beach for morning runs and we do go for walks every night, but just wondering what the best type of activity for "strength " would be.
I was considering taking an exercise DVD, but not sure if the sound of jumping around will bother the other vactioners below us (we are on 2nd floor).

BONUS: we have a nice heated pool at the condo.

Any help, tips, advice is appreciated.

Thanks

pack your own snacks to start- then stop at variety places- that offer a lot- even most big fast food places offer salads and snacks.

look for WaWa's and Sheetz- or QuikCheck- they make made to order food. More better.

check out bodyrock/dailyhiit or zuzka light- they do a lot of body weight routines- good stuff.

    have fun!!

I take a cooler on trips. I take greek yogurt, cheese sticks, fruit cups, along with more portable fruit like bananas and apples that I can eat while driving. And lots of bottled water. I also usually take sandwich fixings for quick lunches. For dinner we usually stop at the truck stop travel plazas with buffets. Then you have a wide choice of salad and dinner fixings.

Editing to add: I do eat fast food a few times a week but I find when I am on a road trip sitting in the car all day driving, it doesn't sit as well as on an ordinary active day, so the above works better for me on trips.

For a workout, you could try something like this: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/

The jumping jacks might be problematic, maybe you could skip that and substitute something quieter..... but I don't think the few you would be doing would be that much of a problem.

thanks deksgrl, that is exactly what I needed.
I have printed that off and it will be my "bible" for the 2 weeks while I am gone :)

    Thanks

27 hours of driving? Wow. That's a lot of time in the car.

I agree with take a cooler. Plan to eat out of the cooler for breakfast and lunch and try to go to someplace healthy for dinner. Stop and eat at rest areas and take a good brisk walk at the rest area before getting back in the car. I find that I get bored and snacky on long car rides. Carrots, pea pods and celery are good crunchy things (especially if they are cool ) that help keep me away from the Oreos that my husband buys. Soup in a thermos tastes good if its cool out.

If you are going in the car, can you add some hand weights and do squats, lunges, situps, shoulder press, bicep curls, etc for strength?

Resistance bands travel really well. You can find some videos on YouTube to give you some ideas

    This one looks good...

Fast food......look up nutritional info (from the usual suspects).....that way you have a game plan.
