Ok, so do I go by the macros set on here or the ones I got from iifym.com? I'm starting to stress about it and it's driving me nuts - one is a lot higher protein than the other. I want to get this right and not spend time doing it wrong - please help me

Well, you could do what I do, which is ignore macros completely. No worries!0
-
So you just go by the calories? Does that effect your loss? I'm aiming for 27lb to loose0

Go with IIFYM. There is no good reason to ignore macros and MFP's macro settings are less than optimal for anyone but cardio bunnies.0

Macros are important. Use the one from IIFYM.
Protein is a macro in which you want to get at least what it is set for, more is not going to hurt you unless you have kidney issues.
Dont stress.0 -

It is what I do!0 -
I use the MFP protein & fiber goals as minimums & ignore the rest. But if you ask 100 MFPers, you'll get 100 different opinions.
Everybody's different, and weight loss takes a whole lot of trial & error to find what works for you. Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
Edited to add that w/ only 17 lbs. to lose, you should set your goal at .5 lb. per week.0 -
Thanks, will recheck and change my settings. I do try not to stress, but if I'm not stressing about my diet it's the kids and if not the kids then it's the dogs!!!
Also can I ask, on the iifym it asks for standard or aggressive, I am fairly active, dog walk everyday and do kick boxing twice a week - which should I go for?
Thanks0 -
I would say do it yourself. The research I've seen suggests that to drop fat and not muscle it is best to hold your protein levels at a high level (I go for 1grm per lb of lean bosy mass) and add this into your TDEE but then do not let MFP reduce the level when in scales your macros to reduce your calorie intake. I do this and take the difference out of the MFP given carb level. BUT then I add back any exercise calories mainly to my carbs. I don't stick to this rigidly but increasing protein to make sure you have enough does appear the way to go.0

if you want to stick to the macros then go by the ones from iifym.com. you can manually update this info in MFP as well.
i got with something close to iifym because the mfp goals are way to low in protein0 -

I have 27lb to loose, I think I have tried every diet going at some point, I just want to start out right this time0 -
It's going to take a lot of trial & error. No one can give you "the right answer."
Even 27 lbs. isn't that much. Do not set your goal higher than 1 lb. per week.0 -
Thanks everyone, iifym gave me 45% protein, 30% fat & 25% carbs - so will work with that from now on.0
