Is my heart rate monitor accurate?

Hi,
I just used a heart rate monitor for the first time (it's a Sportline Duo with a chest strap), and during a 4 mile run it said I burned 790 calories. Is that even possible? I was going about 6 MPH and am super new to running, so it definitely felt pretty difficult to me, but I've always heard that you burn about 100 calories per mile. My heart rate stayed around 180-185 nearly the whole time. For reference, I'm a 26 year old woman, 5'3", normal BMI.
I just want to make sure my calorie expenditure is as accurate as possible. Thanks for any help!

You will find people on here that will tell you that you didn't burn that much. I have a HRM. I run 5 miles a day. However I typically only run about 50-60% of the time. I alternate between 4.2 miles and 6mph. I typically burn 600-700 in those 65 minutes. If your heart rate is up in the 180's and you run 4 miles at 6mph--it is probably fairly accurate. I don't see how a beginner can just start running 4 miles so fast. I have been trying to be a runner for nearly 6 months now and I am nowhere close to that! Lol0

Cool! If that's accurate that's pretty awesome. I was estimating a lot lower, but that would explain why I've been losing while not sticking to my diet when I couldn't drop a freaking pound before. And thanks! I feel like a slow poke, but I guess I've made a lot of progress in just a month and a half. That is definitely my absolute max though lol.0
