Workouts and rest

Hi,
I exercise 5 days/week. 3 days cardio, 2 days weights and 2 days rest. I read somewhere that people take a recovery week every so often. Is this just laziness or is there an advantage to it?

That is depending on the individual.
Also depends on the type of cardio and weights training you are doing.
I for one have proven to be at the top of my game when I run every day(which I'm breaking from) of the year and gym 3-4 days a week with some cycling and sports mixed in.
Most people would benefit from a deload week in the weight room.
If you think you need a deload or a break from your regime, you probably do. Once you are at one with your body and mind, everything falls into place.0 -
Deload or rest weeks are a good idea. Since you do put more emphasis on cardio, I am not sure how often you would need to deload or take the rest week. For people who lift, a general guideline is that beginners or those who have been lifting less than a year Don't need a deload. 1-2 yrs of training about ever 8-12 weeks. More than 2 yrs of training about ever 6-8 weeks.0
