I have Hashimoto's, and it took me a whole year to lose 20 lbs. (on ever increasing doses of Synthroid). You can lose weight with hypothyroidism–just really slowly. (Before MFP, I was gaining quickly.)

MFP has a "Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism" group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/770-hypothyroidism-and-hyperthyroidism

Log everything you eat accurately & honestly. Weigh your food. Eat back half your exercise calories. And read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
  • I have Hashimoto's. My Armour had to keep being increased because I kept having slow thyroid symptoms (swelling, weight gain, hair falling out, extreme fatigue etc...). No matter how much I worked out I would still gain weight... it was very frustrating. My NP told me to go on a gluten and soy free diet. Once I changed my diet to remove soy, gluten and chemicals my thyroid started functioning properly and I was even able to lower my Armour dosage. I currently take 90mg. I finally started losing weight by following this diet and consistently exercise. I am down 22 pounds.
