home excerise - considering a program

Having really knuckled down to losing weight from Jan 1 this year I am seeing good results from watching what I eat and walking. I've walked nearly 50km this month already and lost 3kg (7lbs) so I am feeling positive and want to try to do more. I used to do a couple of classes a week but with commuting for work I can't guarantee I can make them on time. But I do want to commit to losing weight and more importantly improving my health. I used to do circuit training and an aerobics type class and was considering T25 or similar. Any advice appreciated

There really are so many options for at home dvd programs so it really depends on what you like and how much money you are willing to spend. T25 is great because it's short but intense. It doesn't have to be crazy intense until you are ready to make it that, all moves can be modified or slowed down, as with any program. It just comes down to what kind of exercise you enjoy, or at least don't hate lol, doing. I've always loved Turbo Jam, it's fun and so is the kicked up version Turbo Fire. I also really like Les Mills Combat, it's a lot of punching and kicking martial arts cardio. When I want less intense I like Leslie Sansone Walk at Home dvds. I think of them as low impact aerobics, it's not just walking in place.

try going to www.beachbody.com and try the power 90 or p90X. Power 90 is great for starting off if you haven't been too active and believe me it is not as easy as it sounds. P90X is a very effective program as well.

I REALLY like Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs DVDs. I have the alpha and beta of T25 but I am holding off on that right now as I have some traveling for work coming up. Although I guess since I plan on bringing HHA to do in my hotel room, I could just as easily bring T25, except for having a mat. HHA is a good way to introduce yourself to Shaun T and about $30.

I have the You Are Your Own Gym app. It has been a great intro to strength training for me, and I've really discovered muscles I swear I had never used before! Also, my arms are looking better than they ever have and I can lift all kinds of heavy things. Even my running pace has improved, and I was not trying to speed up. So I highly recommend the app. I'd post pictures, but I'm too shy to even take any.

I'm not gonna lie...I had a Tae Bo dvd that kicked my butt. I did lose weight using this dvd...I didn't really build any muscle, but it is a good cardio workout. I also had a Jillian Michaels dvd with which you use hand weights. This kicked my butt too. I like the idea of this one, b/c it incorporated weights. I didn't use it very long, b/c I had foot surgery and then joined a gym; but I think this workout would have been good for weight loss too.
  • I have enjoyed Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30. A lot of it I toned down until I got better - stronger with the workouts. Her tape is circuit training. It is intense but it's beneficial too.

I have used a lot of Jillian Michaels but now wanted something new (and to kick it up a notch). I was debating between P90X, Insanity and T25, and I just decided yesterday to do T25. The time factor is going to help motivate me to do it more consistently, and I can always do more!

beachbody.com has quite a few programs. I have done Insanity (tough!) and I am currently doing Les Mills Pump.

BTW - When Shaun T. says ALL RIGHT PEOPLE, LEVEL 3 DRILLS...it's OK to cuss a little.
  • I use fitness blender on Youtube. They have over 200+ videos on all different exercise routines and all different length of times. My favorite routine right now is doing the 30 min kettle bell workouts, as you are using all the muscles in your body while breaking a good sweat!
  • Any videos with Bob Harper are excellent.
He is by far the best

thanks for all the really useful input. At a fiver may start with the 30 day shred to prove to myself I stick to it before a bigger outlay.
