Polar HRM reading 00 (tried ALL fixes)

Hi there,

I am about to throw this thing into the bin!

My FT40 is quite new (end of July). It replaces my FT7 which was very worn.

So the reading is 00. I have changed the battery, clean the strap, do all the proper stuff...still 00.

Do you think it is defective or is there any other things I can do? I am getting rather frustrated with Polar - when it works, it's great; when not, it keeps going downhill.

thanks

    This happens to me when:
    - I did not wet the strap enough; or
    - The strap is too lose.

It is very annoying! But it's only happened 3-4x for me and I've had mine for two years.

thanks. Yes, that's what I used to do too with my FT7. The FT40 worked amazing the first time, quick read etc...then it stopped. I think it's a defective one to be honest and not worth fixing. I have been fiddling with it for 30 mins already, time better spent on researching on other replacements or exercise, ha!

When this happened to me, It was because the strap was not tight enough or I had the strap too low. Now I wear it directly under my bra band and I have not had a problem. The band of the bra does not interfere with the readings or cause it to move so that is the best location.

I dont wet mine at all and have no issues (now that I have found the proper placement)

I agree that it's probably the chest strap not being tight enough. That's what happens with my Polar HRM when I need to tighten it up. It's worth a try.

I needed to get a new strap for my ft7. Would register at all. Got a new one and it's game on again!!

Unfortunately, it is not a tightness issue :( I even followed their menu and try having the monitor upside down or the strap around other parts of my chest. So frustrating.

I am kind of debating on that too. New strap. Or a new brand altogether?
