Hi I'm new to MFP and I've always wondered is it okay to lie down and eat?? I love to lie down while eating. I remeber in high school my biology teacher said it was okay to do so but I know things change all the time. A new fitness guru comes along every other year and gives their opinion on health and fitness. If anyone can solve this mystery for me that'll be great.

    Lie down where???
Why do you like to do this??
    No judgement, just curious.
  • I lie across the bed on my side and eat. A habit that I have...

I can only speak for myself but, no, I can't lie down to eat. I don't even like to lie down anytime just after I eat. I don't really have a problem with reflux normally but if I lay down after I eat, I seem to get it.
  • I do it all the time too. I have been dealing with terrrible leg pain for a year, so if I got off my feet the pain would ease up. Hence I started eating inthe bed. I could not eve sit without getting terrible pain from the knee down.
But it is now healing so I really need to get back to the dining room table.:smooched:

It won't change the calories or how they are absorbed, so I wouldn't worry about it. Do know that some of eating is gravity based so you do run a higher risk of some heart burn (stomach acid spilling out rather than settling down where gravity should pull it), which long term can be damaging to your esophagus. But if it is not a problem for you don't worry. Or if it is a minor problem prop yourself up a little bit. If you do get or have heartburn, then don't lie down and eat.

Sorry it's what came to mind reading the title

I cannot see why it would be bad to do but do you mean all the time or just now and then

For me it's usually dinner on the knee watching telly or on the laptop  If I was trying to eat lying down I reckon a lot of food would be wasted when dropped lol
