What are your thoughts on the matter? I know its not necessary for being healthy or losing weight but does anyone feel that these have helped or are they just another gimmick?
For example: I have a Greens Concentrate (capsule form) which contains spirulina, chlorella, kamut, barley, red beet, goji, berry, acai berry and probiotic cultures (dairy-free). I haven't noticed any dramatic differences from taking 3 a day for 2 weeks.

I feel more energized and full through out the morning when I have some green in my smoothie! I just put almond milk, a banana, and a handful of spinach.
It's quick, portable, and easy to make so it's one of my go to breakfast choices.0 -
Powders, vitamins minerals and other types of supplements have their place with some people on their particular fitness journeys. To me eating a wide variety of foods, in quantities that are consistent with our fitness goals, is really the best nutritional plan. Supplementation is good when we are not able to reach the appropriate macro and micro nutrient targets.
Now there are certain "dietary supplements" that I think are snake oilesque. Anything of the raspberry ketone ilk, we can probably do fine without. From my perspective, there is no one definitive good or bad when so many types of products can be labled supplements.0 -
Spirulina powder unmasked by fruit juice or milk tastes pretty much like a batch of rotten eggs in a rotten field mushroom patch. *bleurgh*0

I use Shakeology.
I would love to try green smoothies but I don't have a really nice, big blender, and the recipes I always read for green smoothies have so much stuff in them there is no way they'd all fit in my bullet blender, lol. I eat a pretty damn good diet but a green smoothie seems like a concentrated way to get in a crapton of nutritious stuff all at once, I can dig that.
I don't really know why people rag on supplements. I mean if it works for others, great, if not, then fine. Just because someone uses protein powder or likes to juice doesn't mean that's all they eat. I have a shake every day but I also eat like, seven other times.0 -

I make green smoothies in a bullet blender. I found the recipe on pinterest to mix 2 cups of greens with 2 cups of liquid ( I use Almond milk) and I mix those first in one blender cup. Then I split them and add fruit. The recipe says 3 cups of fruit but I've been using 2 cups. It's been a really easy way for me to add some more nutrients into my diet. I'm not sure how much it does, but it has helped me to keep within my calorie limit on a daily basis.0

My feelings are Nutrition is not a myth, the nutritional content in reputable supplements that undergo testing are worth incorporating into a healthy life plan. Some taste a bit grim, but they work wonders as someone else said for a lot of nutrition in a small bundle. So I say they are worth having. If you sieve through the none tested / standardised items on the market and go for quietly,

Well I have improved my overall eating habits, drinking more water and teas and have been exercising more consistently since I started the green supplement, so I have had more energy and feel stronger and less hungry but it's difficult to attribute those changes to any single factor. I'm just curious if these type of supplements are worth the rather outrageous price (I bought mine at 70% off, so it wasn't so bad for a trial run) I'm looking for other people's personal experience from longterm use.0
