Oops! Getting past an eating mistake

Hi everyone! So I just started on working towards becoming healthy in 2014 - eating better and exercising more. I had been doing quite well and I have been happy with my (slow) progress so far.
But just a bit ago, I was baking and couldn't resist sampling each thing I was making. Long story short, I ended up eating whoopie pies and cream cheese and other goodies. While delicious, these are definitely not part of my new healthy eating plan!
I understand we all have moments of weakness, so I moved out of the kitchen and am sipping some coffee in the other room so I don't keep eating. But I'm sure there is a better way?
Does anyone have any tips on how to stop when you catch yourself eating all sorts of things you shouldn't?

I chew mint flavored gum ALL THE TIME. i find that it helps me to not stick food in my mouth when i am cooking. Also its kinda like brushing your teeth that minty taste doesn't mix well with other flavors. For me its what works.0

I wish I knew an easy remedy because that would help me drastically. I just had to be honest with myself and realize every time I baked I wouldn't have the control to not eat it. I just got to the point I bake when I am having a "cheat day" or when it have the allotted cals left for the day. I usually try to make healthier options as well, like banana bread with applesauce rather than butter, etc. Good luck!0

Nothing to do but move on. I'm in maintenance now, but when I first started and I wanted to stay with my plan and not stray, I worked very hard not to put myself into situations where I would have to exercise self control. I wasn't eating out much and there was no food in my house that wasn't on my food plan.0

Log it and move on. Otherwise, if possible, plan for it and work it into your calorie goal.0

Ditto the others. MOVE ON and learn from your mistakes
. All in moderation, but I also find that if I bake it or buy it, it is eaten.
