smoking and metabolism

I quit smoking 60 days ago today. Feeling great, and not going back. HOWEVER I have noticed losing weight since has been soooo much harder. I gained 12 lbs after quitting and have been on track again for the last 2 weeks. With the exercise I've been doing and counting my cals, I normally would have lost a few lbs by now. I have lost 3. Is this my metabolism gone down from quitting? Soooo discouraging. Kinda wish I had lost the weight then quit!!! Anyone have any tips, advice??? Not for cravings or starting again, cause i'm totally fine with that. Just find dropping the pounds has been a lot harder...

Depending on how much you smoked before, your smoking was helping you lose weight, not only because you were smoking instead of eating or food didnt taste as good but, a smoker burns more calories resting than a non smoker because the Hirt has to work harder for the smoking person. I don't know where I read this but I read it a we years ago. I am an ex smoker - 3 years now.

So I saw once on Dr. Oz (so take this for what it's worth); smoking actually slows your metabolism, BUT it is an appetite suppressant. Could it possibly be an oral habit though too...just an idea that I am throwing out there.0

I enjoy my smoke brakes (sad but true) and yes I know it's bad. I can only handle once vise at at time, and right now it's food. Plus I think I would gain 100lbs in the first day I quit, if someone didn't kill me for my crazy *****ieness first. That being said good for you!! It's not easy0

Congrats on totally quitting. My hubby did that back in August and I am almost there (still cheating with puffs). Yes, I have read that smoking does cause the metabolism to speed up and it makes sense. When we smoke we are making an effort to smoke (hand to mouth), we are causing our bodies to process the chemicals, it raises our heart rate and blood pressure, it takes more effort to breath. When you quit you are in a state of stress, the hormones released from that stress cause your body to slow down metabolism(something to do with survival, though I don't remember the specifics). In the same article it said that after about six months the body will settle down and be normal again. If you really want to know, I am certain a quick Google search about your worries will help you find information that is more specific.0
