Losing weight over age 40

In my thirties it was easy to lose weight and now at the age 42 its hard. I just started at the gym at Christmas time. My gym is having biggest loser comp. and joined. I have not been getting on the scale for sometime well 208 pounds now. What worries me is the topic of slowing metabolism after 40. Any ideas on 1 not worrying about over 40 and and 2 tips to push thru the slow metabolism? thank you
