How much exercise should i do?

How much cardio, weight/resistance training should i do each day?
I plan on working out 6 days a week... I am not sure if this helps, but i want to lose around 50 pounds, 1-2 pounds per week and my calorie goal on mfp is 1300.

    I am doing Stronglifts 5x5 and light cardio on the off days and I love it!

    your weight loss is largely about your diet...your exercise is for your fitness. Sit down and think about some fitness goals you would like to achieve and that will give you a good starting point.

    Basic health and well-being requires around 150 minutes of purposeful exercise per week...that's 30 minutes 5x weekly or 60 minutes 3x weekly. Beyond that, your fitness goals should dictate what you're doing and how much, to what intensity, balance of resistance to cardio endurance, etc.

    With MFP you're supposed to eat back exercise calories so really...it's all about your diet for weight control and exercise for fitness.

    I try to do about 30-60 mins of cardio every day, usually by walking. I will also do some strength training or a workout dvd 2 or 3 days a week but with a rest day or two inbetween so my muscles have time to recover. Do whatever feels right for you, if you have more energy do more and vice versa.

    Okay Sparky, back up a little; number seem a were bit off the equator. What do you weigh, and 1-2 pounds per week is too broad for MFP; 1300 calories...need to re-calculate or re-calibrate or something. So, before we launch in to "Here do this" How about what were you doing prior to 6 days a week?

  • thank you, that's what i'm figuring out right now and focusing on my diet which has made all the difference. Really i just want to work out for basic health and well being, become more toned etc. I had been walking off 400 calories a day six times a week since the beginning of dec. but i felt like i was pushing myself too much, maybe i just needed a break but i really felt more toned and fit. I stopped a little over a week ago and just started back yesterday except 20 min of cardio and then i did some weights. Bascially i think my question should have really been what and how long of workouts of cardio and weights should i do for overall fitness, being more toned etc?
