I was hiking yesterday and fell on the trail, and my knee is very tender to the touch and weight bearing/ leg extension/bending is kind of painful. It never swelled, so I don't think I have a serious injury.
What kind of exercising do you think is ok? I have access to elliptical and treadmill, and I have a yoga mat.... I am on a 100 day kick of working out every day and I don't want to stop! But I also don't want to further injure myself.

I've got very bad (sprain prone) ankles and had one give out on me while I was walking a few weeks back. I hit my knee on the concrete and pretty much did the same thing you did, from the sounds of it.
I just kept walking through the pain that night. It was only paintful to walk on for a couple days after. . My knee is still sore to kneel on, but other than that it's fine. I've kept walking and jogging. The eliptical should be pretty low impact on your knee as well.0 -
thank you! I'm glad that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. haha0

Sometimes you need to stop even when you dont want to. If I was you though I would use the elliptical and warm up very slowly. Any sharp pain stop straight away. If the pain increases stop straight away. perhaps do some core work or resistance work - also perhaps go for a swim instead. There are loads of tendons and ligaments in and around the knee and you dont want to aggravate anything. Even if you haven't bashed one of them internal swelling could be putting pressure on one which I'm guessing could cause an internal rub.
Good luck :-)0 -
When I start exercising I hurt my joints in my knee but I continued walking and running. One night my joints were hurting me so bad I had to take 2 days off + an advil.
If you need healing then gets some rest.0 -
Oh boy. Those knee cap injuries can be very painful and can take an awfully long time to heal, in some cases. I might just try an exercise bike first. See how that goes. If that is okay, progress. Try a regular bike, then an eliptical, then a treadmill, etc.
But, take it easy. If you really have bruised the bone under the knee cap, it is not the same as spraining an ankle or having sore knees. There is a reason the thugs used to 'knee cap' someone if they did not pay their gambling debts.0
