Feeling discouraged

Hi. Yesterday I thought I had gained weight from ramen noodles the night before but when I woke up this morning I hadn't lost the sodium weight ( I went from 103 to 102.8) now I'm feeling discouraged that it was actually weight gain. Should I lower my calories for a little bit until I am happy with that number again?

Travis is right. Stop weighing yourself everyday. Weight can fluctuate as much as a few pounds each day. It's suggested to only weight yourself once a week.
Also, I don't think you need to be as concerned about your weight. I got your height from your profile, and if it's accurate, then you are on the very low end of a healthly BMI. If you go too much lower you'll end up in the underweight category.0 -
It's impossible to maintain at one set number - it will drive you mad if you try to.
Accept that your weight fluctuates day to day and work within a range of acceptable weight.
If you want to know how insignificant 0.2lbs is trying weighing yourself, get off the scales, drink a pint of water and then weigh yourself again.0 -
Don't stop weighing yourself every day, as it's important to have the daily numbers to understand the overall trend over time, but DO stop having knee jerk reactions to those daily numbers.
If the number is still high after a week, then you can say it's weight gain and might need to modify your plan, but without weighing yourself every day, you can never know what happened in between.0 -
I like weighing myself every day, but I expect a 3 pound fluctuation.
From weighing myself every day I know a good dose of salt like ramen noodles takes 3 days to come off.0 -
Just eat normally and weih yourself in a few days is my advice0

If you can't weigh yourself every day without getting upset about the number, than weigh once a week only. If you like to weigh yourself daily, decide that fluctuations are going to happen and you aren't going to let them upset you.
I weigh myself almost every day, but I record that weight once a week, and I don't worry about fluctuations throughout the week. I have seen the scale go up 8 pounds overnight because of sodium intake, and drop that same 8 pounds plus another two or three by the end of the week. I've also seen water weight take longer than 24 hours to go away, in fact in usually takes 48 hours to drop off me. For example, if I eat a lot of salt today, I'll retain water, which will show on the scale tomorrow, then if tomorrow I go low sodium to try to make up for it, the weight will still be around the next day, I'll have to go low sodium two full days, and the weight would return to normal not the day after tomorrow, but the day after that.0 -
I agree not to weigh yourself daily. Weekly is much more accurate. Also, it is impossible to gain real weight without a calorie surplus. Simply eating Ramen noodles won't make you gain weight. Any increase in the scale from that is water weight. I also agree to give yourself a range in which to maintain instead of one exact number. It's nearly impossible to always stay one exact number.0

You weigh 102 pounds...enough said.0

If you're going to stress over 0.2 lbs, don't eat ramen noodles. A block of ramen noodles with seasoning can be nearly 2000 mg sodium. (Not to mention the fact that the noodles are drenched in fat, too. You would probably enjoy other types of Asian noodles just as much. http://www.foodsubs.com/NoodlesAsianOther.html )
Not everyone's kidneys dump sodium overnight. It's kind of a mutant European thing, maybe because they developed the technology to mine salt very early in prehistory, and they used it to preserve all kinds of foods through the winter.
Also, if you were dehydrated to start with, your body is going to hold onto all water and sodium until it is at least at its desired volume.0 -

Agree! :laugh:0 -
Water weight can take 5 days to be expelled depending on your water, salt, and potassium intake.0

THIS. I had a 3 lb fluctuation just from morning to evening, yesterday. There was a good reply on another thread about weighing yourself, (sorry, forgotten the link), that went along the lines of "If you get emotionally attached to the numbers on the scale, limit the times you weigh yourself per week/month. If you don't, weigh yourself as much as you like."
(They put it a lot better than I just did). In the nicest possible way - sounds like you're in the first camp. You see a bad number and you feel bad. Forget about it. Move on.0 -
Don't be discouraged, try taking a selfie before and after administering the noodles and see if there's a difference0

It takes me 3 weeks sometimes to lose water weight. You know you didn't gain 1 lb of fat from eating ramen!0

If I eat Ramon tonight will I weigh 102 tomorrow morning? :drinker: I'm going for it!0

If serious, this gives me a sad... OP, ramen doesn't make your body defy the laws of biochemistry... weight just fluctuates from day to day. Don't get wound up over a quarter-pound difference from one day to the next. That's a rounding error, or a bottle of water, or last night's teeny-tiny 300-calorie dinner still sitting in your gut.0 -

The only reason I weigh myself daily right now is because I record my info in an excel spreadsheet in an effort to see trends and to find my TDEE. However, I don't get upset at the numbers.0 -

Huh????? You went down in weight and you weigh 102 lb. are you looking for attention? You asked about ramen noodles yesterday. If it makes you feel so bad why even eat them ?0 -
OP you will not be able to maintain this lifestyle if such things upset you so much. Weight fluctuations happen all the time. I feel like i have not lost weight since forever, but when i check averages, i see that i am losing around 2 pounds per month which is my goal. I eat all the foods, sodium or not, whatever i like..exercise, try to stay within calorie goals and that should take care of it. Do not stress so much over measly pound..its nothing!
Food is to eat and enjoy..it should not cause this much guilt.0 -
Weighing my self everyday would make me seriously lose my mind. I currently take my weight once a week on a Sunday, that way I can chart how I am doing and see my progress.0

No kidding. I weight about once or twice a month. I figure that way there is less of chance of water weight affecting my weighting.0 -
you should have waited until after your bowel movement, you were just carrying a little extra.0
