Will a heart rate monitor (reasonably) accurately work out the calories burnt during a routine like T25/Insanity. Is there anything I should be looking out for before purchase?

It's really the only way to accurately tell what your actual calorie burn is as it's completely individual. Just remember, however, that it doesn't account for TOTALLY calories burned THROUGHOUT the day and that's where programs like T25 and Insanity are awesome because they increase your total daily caloric burn so just keep that in mind. If you want to know what your TOTALY daily caloric burn is you may want to look for something like a FitBit that you wear all day long. I myself just use the Garmin I was given years ago when I was running so I don't have much experience with different types of HR monitors. You do want to make sure you can personalize the monitor to your own personal stats (such as age and current weight) and make sure you update it regularly so that your calories burned are as accurate as possible.

I've used mine while doing the lower focus on t25 and the calories burned didn't seem inaccurate to me. As far as i can tell go for it. especially for insanity. I did 2 rounds of it in the beginning of 2013 and i wish i had my hrm then0
