Training for 150-mile two day bike ride

Has anyone ever trained for one of those two day bike rides, and if so, any advice on a training plan that was helpful? My family recently lost my sister-in-law to brain cancer and many of us would like to participate in DC's Ride to Conquer Cancer in September 2014. Though I am (and have been) working to get in shape, I know I'm not even close to ready for something like that. Any help would be appreciated.

    I am currently training for the Tout de Cure Century ride. I don't know if training for a 2 day ride would be any different. Good news is you have plenty of time to train! I just googled Century Training for Beginners, there's tons of websites out there.

    There are plans that build off of your current ability as well. The plan I will be using is a 12 week plan. I should be okay with that since my long rides, during better weather than we are having right now, are roughly 25-30 miles.

    I've never done back to back days at those distances so take this FWIW......

    1) Get a proper bike fit done - if your bike is not set up properly short rides are seldom a problem but when you start cranking out the miles you will, at the very least, be uncomfortable and, at worst, risk injuring yourself.

    2) Ride, ride and ride some more. Do you have a local bike club? Most clubs will offer member led progressively longer rides (and the experience of riding in a group is valuable)

    3) Did I mention ride? Get on your bike now; whether it's your own bike mounted on a trainer or a spinning bike don't wait for spring to start building and mix your rides up between long, steady state rides and interval training (check out Spinervals DVDs, Sufferfest videos or google indoor bike workouts for some freebies)

    4) Cross-train (lift weights, swim, run, walk, yoga, your favourite sport etc)

    and buy a good pair of bike shorts and a tube of chamois butter.

    Good luck (I do Ride the Rideau - another cancer fundraiser - every year and the first year doing 100k was pretty hard, they now offer a 100 mile option that I'll be doing this coming September)
