Low intensity and long duration?

Hi everyone!
I am relatively new to fitness although I've been active (biking, hiking, walking etc) for most of my life.

My new goal in 2014 is to lose a little weight (like 10 pounds) and lean out, but get toned. I don't want to bulk up and grow muscle (unless, you know, it replaces where fat was).

Right now my plan is

- Eat at a 200 cal deficit (I'm short and BMR is really low); clean and low fat
- every other day do high intensity interval training/ strength training (lifting light but more reps)
- and someone has suggested alternative day low intensity long duration for fat loss.

The important thing is really that I want to get smaller, lose weight, and tone.

What are your thoughts about that plan?

thanks!

So toning means that you want your muscles to show more. The easiest way to do that is two fold, make your muscles bigger or make your layer of fat smaller (usually both).

I highly recommend that you use a lifting program like Stronglifts 5x5 to make that happen for you. Cardio will help eat up those calories when active, but building those muscles means that they will eat up more calories when at rest.

Just my two cents, let me know if you have any questions!
