Fundraising....

I'm a team captain for an American Lung Association stairclimb team and we have about 5 1/2 weeks till our event. I work at a big company with a lot of people and traffic, and have done candy bar sales (but its hard not to eat them when they're piled up on my desk). I've met my own goals, but have some team members who are struggling, so I'm trying to help out by raising cash that I can put onto their minimum goal....

Anyway...I'm looking for any creative ideas for raising funds for chairty and was hoping some of you might have had success raising money for your own fitness events.

Thanks!

Unsure where you're at, as it's -34F here, but we had good luck with BBQs on the steps of our office building -- advance warning with posters etc. meant a lot of people stopped by for lunch. Bought in bulk, and had a decent return on the money we put into it. That is more of a group initiative. Silent auctions were also a hit in office environments, and bake sales.

We're in the "polar vortex" right now too...Detroit :grumble:

That's a good idea though...maybe for next year, I can start early and plan something big to kick off my team! I could BBQ hotdogs (and incorporate Scotty's suggestion too  )

Penny wars can be fun - bring out the competitive side in some people. Our communitiy involvement committee did one last year and raised a nice chunk of change. In our case, they had each floor of our building compete and the winner got a dessert tray for their kitchen (cookies, cupcakes). Here's a linky to explain:

P.S. Bake sales are always a hit. Sometimes it's just the normal cookies, cakes, etc. and sometimes they do just breakfast things like bagels, muffins and get treats donated by some of the local bakeries and cafes.

We made fresh apple pies and sold them once. People ordered ahead of time so we only bought what we needed. It was a lot of work to make, but everyone likes apple pie!

    Penny wars looks very cool!

I should have clarified though...I'm the only team member at my company (its a 'friends and family team and we're all scattered), so some of these cool ideas would be tough, as its just me here
