Hi as a newbie I am interested to find out if any of the members have been through cardiac rehab following a heart by-pass operation.
I am currently undergoing stage 3 of the rehab process and am trying to find out how many calories are burnt off using the BACR circuits exercise that forms part of the rehab programme. So far those I have asked within the programme including the physiotherapist do not appear to have any idea. I am trying to get to a figure so that I can use it to update my daily exercisees within MFP. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the exact calories burned using the BACR circuits, but at least with the cardiac rehab associated with the hospital where I work the plan is to exercise at a percentage of your maximal heart rate based on an initial treadmill stress. So exercise HR are followed closely. If you know your HR while doing the BACR circuits, you can estimate calories burned based on the following formula:

    Men: C/min = (-55.0969 + 0.6309 x HR + 0.1988 x weight + 0.2017 x age) / 4.184
    Women: C/min = (-20.4022 + 0.4472 x HR - 0.1263 x weight + 0.074 x age) / 4.184

Otherwise, I know that cardiac rehab at my hospital has HRM (heart rate monitors) available for those people who are trying to slowly move into a higher heart rate target range. If you use one while you work out it will give you an estimate of calories burned without all the troublesome calculations!
