Is calorie count accurate for exercise log?

I've been having kind of a hard time believing that my daily walk pushing my son's stroller only burns 200 calories. We walk for an hour and I push myself pretty hard. I was logging it as Walking at a moderate pace and it said that I burned a lot more than when I log it as pushing a stroller. Has anyone else had a question with this? What solutions did you use? Should I buy a heart rate monitor or a pedometer or something and go with that?

Well it's not accurate to the calorie, but I'd say that sounds about right. But I agree, sometimes the calorie count seems a bit high. For example, I hiked for 100 mins. It said I burned over 600 calories! :noway:

Maybe I did, doesn't matter too much, I had fun and I was out there.

I would suggest a HRM (Heart Rate Monitor). I know its been said dozens of times (at least) but i started using one just a couple weeks ago and i have already found that on some days (same exact work out) i burn more cals versus other days. Dont know why i always try to push myself but there have been up to 100 cal differences.

To be on the safe side i would go with the lower of the two numbers or average them but using the higher might just turn out to be a problem in the long run if you get stuck or gain weight when you think you should be loosing.

I think the pushing a stroller must mean a "mall like" setting. Strolling, rather than pushing a stroller. I would get an idea of your pace and enter that in - then give yourself a few bonus minutes for the stroller. Or try looking up other "walking pushing a stroller calories burned" in google. Calorie control gives it 297 for someone that weighs 150.

That's what I thought it meant. I knew I was burning more calories than it was giving me, because I walk pretty fast for that hour. We cover about 2.5 miles in that time. I went to Calorie Control and it said I burned 488. I'll have to average them or something, but it sure FEELS like I burn a lot in that walk. Thanks!
