Had A Conniption

I seem to be forgetting this morning, as I get on the scale that reads three pounds higher than yesterday, what causes fluctuation. Can you remind me please? I've spent the last hour having a self-pitying conniption of epic proportions. I realize I've only just began and should expect change...just need some logic talked into me.
Thanks everyone. Le sigh.

1. Food in gut from yesterday
2. Water retention from salty food
3. New/harder exercise - water travels to muscles to replenish glycogen and help repairs
4. You had an awesome workout and could eat back more food than usual
5. Leylines
6. Dark matter
7. Evil twin stepping on the scale behind you
My weight can fluctuate by as much as 4lbs. Just embrace it. Draw a graph on Excel and see the gradual trend downwards which is the important part. Just decide on a strategy to record your weight on MFP at stick to it - same morning of the week post toilet trip, lowest point over the week etc.0 -
It could be sodium (water retention) from foods you ate yesterday.....did you go to the bathroom before you weighed.....lots of factors! One day isn't anything to worry about.0

There is one truth that I learned from dieting: bodies are weird. Sometimes you are going to have a gain for no apparent reason. Stress, hormones (are you ovulating or near your time of the month?), constipation, sodium, exercise, dehydration, and probably a dozen more reasons I can't pull off the top of my head will all affect your weight on the scale.0

Glad to come across this thread...my scales were up 2 lbs. this morning and I was expecting a loss. I've been going at this for awhile now and I know better...but was good to read the reasons why in this post. Pre-MFP days--it would have given me a mental "diet" breakdown leading to a mini-binge, but now I know to keep pushing along. Stupid scales anyways!!0

Ha! Thanks for all the rationalizing, reminders and laughs everyone. I knew my sodium intake was high, but had no idea what that really affected or why I should care at 25. (I can't get high cholesterol yet! Eye roll).
I've noticed my daily mood changes each time I weigh myself, as well as the number. Maybe it's time to weigh in once a week and not feed into the worries of minor fluctuations.
Again, thank you!0
