Adding exercise OR not? Please help...

Hi all,

Would like some help with whether i should be adding exercises or not to the myfitnesspal app.

I haven't really been using the app just on and off lately but wanting to use it properly.

I've been 25 stone before i'm currently at 18st 4lb and want to get to 14st.

I have a sedentary job but my friend is a personal trainer and he advised to set it at lightly active as I do ride my bike and go to the gym...Sometimes lol.

I'm looking to knock everything on the head now and really get into it but need clarification, PLEASE.

  • I personally don't. When you fill out the goals it asks how much exercise you do, so it's already factored into the end calorie count. The same is done with a lot of other calorie counters. What my count is already factors in the amount of exercise I'm doing.

I also found when I did track the exercise, I kept thinking that I could eat back those "burnt" calories, which would sometimes help me to justify making bad choices later. So it really is up to you and how you mind will work with it.

I add exercises, but don't eat back all of my exercise calories, just a part of them.. I reached my goal and it was for a combination of reasons that boil down to eating less and moving more. I'm in my 60's. If I can do it, most people can.

I'd say if your gonna add exercise put yourself on sedentary and only eat back half your calories.

The problem I'll have is if I see the calories I would probably eat them.

I've seen people advise that before when you advise how many times you will exercise per week nut my calories stay the same if I put 0 or 4, why is this?
