Gaining 1lb per week and not sure why!

Hi everyone!

So I've been steadily gaining 1lb per week over the last few weeks and I have no clue why. This week I've been doing weight watchers again, but also logging on here. Near enough bang on with WW, under every day on here, and weighed this morning and another 1 on!!! So disheartening. I do normally weigh on a saturday so not sure if that has anything to do with it or not?

I've made my diary public whilst I've made this post incase there are any lovely members out there who could have a little nose and give me an idea of what I'm doing wrong maybe?! All help is greatfully appreciated, including any criticisms as I also would kind of like that too!!

sorry but you are eating lots of processed foods. Everything comes out of a box. Switch to natural, clean whole foods and you'll feel the difference within 48 hours. I know a ton of ripped *kitten* folks and none of them ever open a box to eat.....sure as hell no weight watchers (they use GMO's BTW)

Its important in my opinion to weigh yourself at roughly the same time every time you do a weigh in. For me, It is Friday morning before breakfast.

The thing I'm consistently seeing is that you have a lot of exercise calories it says your burning. May I ask what your using to determine calorie burn? If your using online calculators or machines, they tend to overestimate calories burned and you should take off 33 - 50% so you don't overestimate calories burned and eat them back. If your using a heart rate monitor those are really reliable, but make sure the information on the watch portion is up to date.

Other than that are you measuring / weighing your food? If you have not invested in a food scale (they are cheap) you should. We often are eating more than we think we are. A lot of your numbers for food measurements look like estimations to me.

    edit:

As far as what the person above me said, while wholefoods are important to give your body what it needs, when it comes to weight loss its all about calories in vs. how many calories your burning. You can literately lose weight on skittles and coke as long as you log everything. You won't FEEL good mind you, because your body needs nutrients and that is why it is important to incorporate wholefoods, but don't' feel like you can't eat the things you love. Just log them properly.

Yea I see your (both of you!) points. The thing with the weight watchers stuff is being as I've been following that plan, sometimes it's easier to use that as I know how many points it is. Although I don't think too much of what I've had this week has been out of a box bar one meal!

I have a fit bit and never eat back the calories. I log the activities on myfitness pal, but go by what fit bit tells me as I know that that can sometimes be an overestimation. Should I be eating back these calories then? And seamonster, do you think calorie counting is the best way to go as opposed to weight watchers?!

Weight Watchers helps you learn what foods are better for you, because junk food tends to be a lot of points. However, you can lose weight just fine by just logging calories, but you must log them properly (measure / weigh).

On your food log, it states at the bottom everyday " *You've earned xxx extra calories from exercise today, and they are all above 500. Myfitnesspal automatically adds exercise calories in for you to your food log because the default method of using myfitnesspal has your net calories at a deficit, net calories is (food calories - exercise calories). By default you ARE eating back your calories, and I'm seeing that you are indeed most days doing so.

Its not a bad design on myfitnesspal's part, because if you log everything properly you will lose weight. This method on the forums is referred to as the NEAT method. If you don't want to eat back your calories use the TDEE -20% method and log all your exercises as having burned off 1 calorie, so the food diary doesn't adjust your calorie goal for the day.

My best guess to you is that your underestimating calorie intake by not measuring your food, and that your overestimating calories burned.

I appreciate the advice. As for over estimating what I'm burning through exercise, this is why I got the fitbit so that it would give me an accurate reading. I log on here when I've done a class, as that's what's recommended for the fitbit, but I only go by what my fitbit adjustment is. And speaking to others who have one, these are accurate.
I know I've sometimes eaten back calories, but this week that's not been the case, or the week or so before when I fasted and then was under other days.

I do weigh some of my food, but there's no way that I want to be obsessively weighing everything I put in my mouth!! I've just ensured that I have a smaller portion at meal times.

Anyway, will just crack on with it and hope for the best!
