Hey there. I found out recently I have PCO and my doctor prescribed me metformin for 2 months, and asked me to lose 5 kgs. Initially I was so motivated to lose weight, but now I'm not dieting. I feel so bad about it. And I'm scared that I have this horrible thing. Idk what to do? I have been cycling since 10 days, haven't checked if I lost weight but I have been eating everything. My diet isn't much, but I eat junk.
Please help me? I'm scared what if te medicine doesn't affect me? Should I start dieting now?

Hey - I also have PCOS and am prone to insulin resistance if I don't keep my diet in check.
Metformin isn't a weight loss drug, but an antidiabetic drug. It helps your body keep the insulin resistance in check, and works much better in conjunction with dietary changes. I have to keep my carbohydrate intake moderate. The big meals are to have about 45 g of carbs or fewer, and snacks about 15 g of carbs or fewer. I'm also to aim to get most of my carbs from vegetables, high fiber fruits, and whole grains, rather than things like white rice, added sugar, bananas, etc.
I would either consult a dietitian or go back to your doctor and ask for advice on how to alter your diet to best help get your insulin levels under control! Good luck!0 -
I'm halfway thru my course now, I'm just planning to change my diet pattern for the remaining course left. And then get an ultra sound done. Thanks0

I take Metformin extended release 750 mg twice a day for insulin resistance and severe reactive hypoglycemia.
Metformin isn't a weight loss drug. But it is most effective when combined with exercise and proper diet. Losing weight will ultimately help you so if you care about your health and overall well-being, you will listen to your doctor and lose 5 kg.
You don't need to diet. You just need to watch your calorie intake, carbohydrate and sugar intake. My dietician recommended 30-45 g of carbs per meal and 15-30 g of carbs per snack. Insulin resistance usually comes along with PCOS so I wouldn't be surprised if you have that as well. That's the plan I follow. It'll help keep your insulin in check.0
