Interesting article where he looks at several models by well known trainers such as Alan Aragon, Martin Berkhan, Casey Butt how to predict muscular gain potential. They all come out in the same ballpark. I've been pondering on some of the claims I've seen on certain PT websites about gaining much more than these figures. It seems people will spend money on quick fixes whether it's losing or gaining!
Disappointingly, Casey Butts calculator doesn't ask whether I'm male or female. I suppose I'm just going to have to halve the equations.

I wish technology would bloody hurry up and get it's shizzle together. Then we could all look after our health better and all this stabbing around in the dark and confusion would go!
Then again, it wouldn't be nearly so fun on the forums! Lol0 -
But if you put in hard work and eat 6,000 calories and train like Kai Greene you'll gain like 50lbs of muscle in 8 months. Obviously.0

Or the other side: but you're female, so you have to lift for years and years to gain a miniscule amount of muscle. Testosterone, dontchaknow?
I've read about at least a couple of these models before, so it makes me chuckle when someone says 'a professional bodybuilder with years of experience would be lucky to put on that amount of muscle' when talking about a new lifter months and months in to a program. Well, yeah, they would be lucky to have the same rate. Really.0 -
Berkhan's calculator for contest lean (5-6%) for my height puts me about 70kg. Which I almost weigh at the moment at about 14-15%, so I'm way off my maximum potential. Of course that's if these calcs are accurate (they seem to have been mostly derived from looking at contest lean bb's - so not exactly a representative population)
Although I'm knocking on the door of 40, so that goes against me doesn't it? Damn those teenagers with their puberty!0 -
"At a fundamental level, trainees should train and eat properly and let the cards fall where they may."

I adore Alan, but I only gained a pound per month for 6 months, trying to gain. At 5'2 and 100 pounds and I was eating 2500+ calories daily. Lost it due to injury from a bad car accident. So yeah, there's only so much I can do.0 -

Sorry to hear that about accident! Yes, my minuscule 1.5lb of muscle gain took 6 weeks and 18 hours in the gym. Plus the pricey protein.
Very expensive and valuable stuff eh?0
